Lord of nothing, Lord of all;
Lord of great, Lord of small.
Lord of man, Lord of beast;
Lord of famine, Lord of feast.
Lord of wind, Lord of breath;
Lord of life, Lord of death.
Lord of comfort, Lord of pain;
Lord of loss, Lord of gain.
Lord of colour, Lord of light;
Lord of deepest, blackest night.
Lord of joy, Lord of woe;
Lord of friend, Lord of foe.
Lord of action, Lord of rest;
Lord of cursed, Lord of blessed.
Lord of time, Lord of space;
Lord of creed, Lord of race.
Lord of churches, Lord of states;
Lord of walls. Lord of gates.
Lord unchanging, Lord of change;
Lord of freedom, Lord of chains.
Lord of many, Lord of few.
Lord of me?
Lord of you?
From the Author:
This poem was inspired by the first line 'popping into my head' (from the
nothing before creation to everything there is!) and then meditating on the
contrasts and extremes over which our 'Lord of all' is sovereign - finishing
with the question of whether we acknowledge him to be Lord of us.
